Now it is freaking old at 1988, which implies that our gdp figure will be automatically inflated! We are producing a lot of manufacturing goods for exports and they have a lot more value (higher price) at 1988 prices as compared to now.

I feel that Image data from sattellite is very rich, and hopefully it would be possible to tap into them soon, with continuous update like those economic indicators released from official bodies.

Will also be interesting to look into those places with notorious reputation for manipulating gdp figures e.g. Burma (over report) and china (under report).
